    2. Secretly, I collected her broken, acrylic pink nails after she was done with them. I would dive into the trash when she peeled them off in class, a habit of anxiety and slip them into my pocket before the bell. When I went home, I would use their sharp and jagged edge to carve her name into the same place on my forearm. Darla. Darla. Darla.
    3. The telephone rang. It as the wrong number but the caller refused to hang up. Instead, he begged for some butter and a spoon. All he wanted. Butter and a spoon.

    3. People were probably saying that the little boy shouldn't have come home yet, but his mother begged and begged and somehow they signed all the paper, and bam, there he was.

  3. 1.As for God, he stood watching in horror at what I had done. Flour covered every inch of the kitchen.

    2.Outside, it was humid. It stood like a wall against the cool entrance of the doorway. The thick fog pooled at the floor, calling him forward.

    3.The one thing that I couldn’t say was no. The variety of eclectic guests was bound to make a scene if he denied them even one thing, and then his cover would be blown.

  5. 1.The sour scent of almost ripened papaya brought back memories when he first laid eyes on her on that crisp May afternoon.
    2.Her father had always warned about her exposing herself outside in public view. He always told that how her mother didn't care if she was outside for hours and told how he was worried that she would get shot or run over soon. Despite all this, she still went outside, always lying to him.
    3.Outside, the leaves began to mature and contrasted with the atmosphere of the dull blue sky. It was quite beautiful compared to the lively yet flat reds and oranges that were painted in the living room.

  10. The last few nights she had a recurring dream about something she couldn't fathom. They all started the same way, with her waking up in a room. The sound of the wind brushing against the window was the first sound she heard. Followed by the sound of the building creaking with every step. Her clothes were dirty, consumed by scattered stains on both her once white shirt and black pants. She bends over and grabs a stick that she remembers grabbing a thousand times and holding it the exact same way. The next step she takes she wakes up.


    Her mother always warned her that she couldn't overthink everything. You have to let things go she would always say. She never decided to listen, that's why she here now.

    If someone said make a wish, she would wish for a better life. A life filled with the love from her parents instead of the father from down the street.
