3. Magda is described by Stella as "aryan," which Rosa sees as a sort of threat to their safety.
4. The shawl, by Rosa, is seen to be magic because it keeps Magda nourished as they travel, and also keeps her from crying, so they have less of a chance of being found. The shawl, in the end, leads to Magda's death and really sparks (physically) Stella's jealousy.
1. The events occur at a Concentration Camp during the Holocaust.
ReplyDelete2. Rose tangentially connects Stella for the death of Magda, but knows that it is not intentionally her fault. Stella is jealous of Magda and wants to protect herself.

5.The shawl represents the things that protected Magda and kept her alive. It also represents the thing that all three of them went to when they needed strength and something to hold on to so it sort of represents a lifeline for them all. Magda could stand to be without it, Stella needed it because she was cold like her heart and it gave her comfort to suck on, and when Magda died, the shawl was what kept Rosa from screaming her pain out loud and breaking down. It’s what kept her alive.
